Greene County was established in 1838 from Orange County. The county is named for American Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene.
Central to Charlottesville, Richmond, and Washington D.C., neighboring Greene County offers superior quality of life off the beaten path just north of Albemarle County. Noted for quaint inns and rich farmlands, this is an area where peace of mind comes naturally. Here visitors can escape the hurriedness of urban America and enjoy scenic drives through the magnificent Blue Ridge Mountains and central Virginia’s renowned wine country without straying far from economic strongholds.
The residents of Greene County enjoy a relaxed and rural setting where rolling pastures and protected mountain views provide the ideal location for outdoor recreation, from fishing and hunting to horseback riding and hiking through the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains.
In recent years, Greene County has become the prime location to purchase land, buy or build a home.
